- Zakharova called the statements about the abolition of the Russian language and culture loudmouthed
The Russian language ranks fifth in the world in terms of prevalence, so all statements about the abolition of Russian culture are common loudmouthed. This was stated on March 11 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, referring to the report of the Alexander Pushkin Institute of the Russian Language.
"The Russian language ranks fifth in the world. It's very interesting. Especially considering all this "loudmouthedness" regarding the abolition of supposedly Russian culture," she said on Sputnik radio.
The diplomat stressed that attempts to oppress and ban the Russian language, which are being undertaken by some Western countries, are futile.
Zakharova reported on February 4 that the Ukrainian authorities were harassing the Russian-speaking population, but the Russian language continued to be in demand. The diplomat gave an example of an incident in Lviv, when cafe patrons kicked out a mother and child for speaking Russian. She stressed that Ukrainians continue to speak and think in Russian, despite pressure and prohibitions.
