- The expert reported on the possible recognition of the deceased family of the Usoltsevs before the discovery.
Sergei and Irina and their five-year-old daughter, who disappeared in the Krasnoyarsk Territory in September 2025, may be officially declared dead no earlier than the end of March. This was announced on March 10 by Honored Lawyer of Russia Ivan Solovyov.
"A court can declare a citizen dead. If there is no information about the missing person at the place of residence and there is reason to believe that there were circumstances threatening their lives, then they can be declared dead within six months. This deadline expires at the end of March. If the investigation has no reason to believe that these people are alive or hiding somewhere, then the court, after examining the materials and interviewing witnesses, may recognize the Usoltsevs and their daughter as dead," he said in an interview with aif.ru .
According to him, the day of death in this case will be considered the moment the court decision comes into force. After recognizing the family of the deceased, children can apply to a notary to begin registration of inheritance procedures.
It is specified that in this case, the hereditary mass will be determined and the presence of a will from the missing will be checked, after which the case will be opened. Relatives will be able to enter into the inheritance six months after its beginning, a year after the disappearance of the family.
The loss of the Usoltsev family in the Minsk Loop area was reported on September 28, 2025, when they were heading to Mount Pinocchio. Over 515 km of forest roads and 40 square kilometers of woodlands were explored in the search. The active phase of the search was completed on October 12, but the work continued in the format of point tasks, which were entrusted to certified rescuers.
The repeated search for the missing family became known on January 30. Serafima Choodu, a representative of the press service of the LizaAlert regional detachment, also said on January 19 that volunteers would return to the large-scale search for the Usoltsev family in the taiga of the Krasnoyarsk Territory in the spring. The timing of the onset of climatic spring in the Krasnoyarsk Territory varies by region and generally falls on the period from the end of the first decade of April to the end of May.
Kulesh, an experienced hiker, said on March 6 that the active search for the family would resume no earlier than May, after the snow had cleared. Before the greenery appears, it is necessary to carefully inspect the territory, as then the tracks may disappear again.
