- The Russian ambassador announced Slovakia's possible refusal to support Ukraine's accession to the EU.
Due to the situation with the Druzhba oil pipeline, Slovakia may refuse to support Ukraine's accession to the European Union (EU). This was announced on March 11 by Russian Ambassador to Slovakia Sergey Andreev.
"Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said that if oil supplies to Slovakia via Druzhba are not restored, the Slovak government reserves the right to take other measures, in particular, to withdraw support for Ukraine's accession to the EU," the diplomat explained in an interview with TASS.
In addition, Andreev stressed that in response to Ukraine's actions, the Slovak authorities terminated the Slovak-Ukrainian agreement on emergency electricity supplies.
On March 8, Fico stated that he doubted Ukraine's intention to repay the loan, which the EU countries additionally want to provide for military needs. He noted that the Slovak government considers it the right decision not to involve the republic in this financial program.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said on March 5 that the restoration of the Druzhba oil pipeline is technically possible within a month and a half, but this will happen only if Europe finds ways to unlock a loan of €90 billion for Ukraine.
On March 9, Fico reported that the Slovak Republic was legally seeking to restore oil and gas supplies through Ukraine, which, according to Bratislava, should be carried out by the end of 2027. According to him, Slovakia is ready to continue Hungary's line and consider the possibility of blocking a European loan for Kiev.
