RT's editor-in-chief Margarita Simonyan has proposed fining property owners who refuse to rent to families with young children. Simonyan told about this on March 10 in her Telegram channel.

"Today I was surprised to find that realtors prefer not to contact families with babies, because homeowners often refuse to rent apartments to such families. It's because of the babies," Simonyan explained.

She stressed that real estate agencies often shy away from cooperating with such clients, fearing the refusal of homeowners precisely because of the presence of children. She added that it is extremely rare to support repressive measures such as fines or other liability, but this, according to her, is the case.

"We're fighting for demography, yeah," Simonyan summed up.

Alexander Aksenenko, chairman of the State Duma Committee on Construction and Housing, announced on the same day that a family mortgage on secondary housing could be earned as early as 2026. The MP added that the expansion of mortgage programs and the improvement of conditions for the purchase of housing could potentially contribute to an increase in the birth rate if real estate becomes more affordable for families.
