The analyst admitted a strong increase in the cost of oil
There is no limit to the price of oil against the background of events in the Middle East. This opinion was expressed by Vladimir Demidov, an analyst of the resources and energy market, head of the Future Energy Laboratory at Moscow State Medical University Skolkovo, on Tuesday, March 10.
The expert pointed out that when the Strait of Hormuz is blocked, but not physically closed, that is, ships or vessels can pass through it, but Iran does not allow it, the price increases quite quickly.
"It has grown by 58% in a month, I think. But just yesterday, after the phrase of [US President Donald] According to Trump, the United States has practically completed its tasks in Iran and the war will end soon, the price has collapsed by more than 10%, although, most likely, they have not achieved or fulfilled any goals and objectives in Iran," he said in an interview with Lenta.Ru .
Demidov noted that when the Strait of Hormuz was blocked for a week, the price rose from $65 to $105-110 per barrel.
"This is without physically blocking the bay. By physically blocking the gulf, I mean, let's say if Iran decides to take an extreme step and simply completely blocks the strait, for example, by blocking the fairway, flooding, say, a tanker or two, which completely blocks the strait, and then traders and, in principle, everyone will understand that this situation will not be resolved quickly, and the price will rise significantly quite quickly," the analyst admitted.
At the same time, he noted that this price will not be able to hold for long, since in this case no one will buy oil except those who have run out of reserves.
"For example, we can recall the events of the Arab-Israeli conflict, when OPEC imposed an embargo on oil supplies to countries that supported Israel, and the price increased fourfold in a few weeks," the expert concluded.
The day before, the price per barrel of oil dropped below $90 after a sharp rise to almost $120, according to 360.ru .
Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on March 9 that world oil prices are rising, they have added more than 30% in recent weeks, IA Regnum reports. The Russian Federation has repeatedly warned that attempts to destabilize the situation in the Middle East would jeopardize the global fuel and energy complex, the head of state said.
At the auction on Monday, March 9, the price of oil rose by more than 26% and reached its highest level since mid-2022, RT reports.
