The gynecologist announced the possibility of pregnancy with endometriosis
Women with endometriosis can plan pregnancy, but this should be done after consulting a doctor. Alexey Shklyar, associate professor of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Sechenov University, PhD, gynecologist-surgeon, told Izvestia on March 13.
"Before planning a pregnancy, it is important to prescribe progestogen therapy to the patient, and at least six months later, the outpatient doctor will fully examine the patient in order to exclude other factors that may prevent pregnancy, such as factors from the liver, blood clotting, and others. After conducting a comprehensive examination, he releases her for pregnancy planning, either in a natural cycle, if both the uterus and ovaries are preserved, or, if necessary, with the involvement of ART specialists," the specialist explained.
According to the doctor, endometriosis can indeed increase the risk of infertility, but much depends on the form of the disease and the degree of damage to the reproductive organs. For example, if endometriosis affects the ovaries and leads to the formation of cysts, this may reduce the supply of follicles needed for pregnancy. Even after successful removal of such cysts, the level of the fertility hormone may decrease.
With endometriosis of the uterine body, the probability of pregnancy remains high. The main problem is that the disease can impair the blood supply to the uterine mucosa, which makes it difficult to implant an embryo. However, modern treatment methods, including minimally invasive technologies, can eliminate lesions and increase the likelihood of successful conception.
Shklyar stressed that even with ovarian damage, the chance of pregnancy remains, although it may be lower. In such cases, modern assisted reproductive technologies can help women.
The doctor noted that in his practice, a significant proportion of patients with uterine endometriosis become pregnant naturally after treatment. Modern medical approaches make it possible not only to achieve conception, but also to bear a healthy child.
At the same time, the specialist advises women with diagnosed endometriosis not to postpone motherhood for a long time and follow the recommendations of doctors, including treatment and regular monitoring.
Starting from March 1, Russia plans to launch a register containing information about women receiving medical care in the field of obstetrics and gynecology in connection with pregnancy. It was clarified that the system will record the date of registration and the duration of pregnancy at the moment, information on the use of assisted reproductive technologies, as well as data on pregnancy outcome and the presence of critical obstetric conditions.
