Kazakhstan assessed the consequences of increased recycling on cars from the Russian Federation

A sharp increase in car prices in Kazakhstan is not expected after the planned increase in recycling for cars imported from Russia. This was stated by the Minister of Industry and Construction of Kazakhstan, Yersayin Nagaspayev, TASS reported on March 10.

"We are not making any innovations for the Russian market here, we are just mirroring the situation. We must ensure equal access to the markets of the two countries. In Russia, the recycling for our cars has been raised dozens of times," Nagaspayev said and noted that a joint order with the Ministry of Ecology has not yet been signed.

The Minister pointed out that the share of car imports from Russia to Kazakhstan is small — it is about 3.7% of the total.

The Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Kazakhstan proposed in January this year to raise the recycling fee for cars and agricultural machinery imported from Russia and Belarus.

The draft order says that it is aimed at eliminating the imbalance in the amount of scrap collection between Kazakhstan, Russia and Belarus, as well as creating equal conditions for cars produced in Kazakhstan to enter the markets of the EAEU countries by bringing the mechanisms for calculating scrap collection to the correct parameters. It is planned that recycling rates for vehicles imported from the territories of Armenia, Kyrgyzstan and other countries that are not members of the EAEU will not change.

Earlier, on March 6, it was reported that after December 1 last year, when the preferential recycling rate for cars with a capacity over 160 hp was abolished, the structure of imports of used cars in Russia changed towards lower capacity. As a result, cars with engines up to 160 hp accounted for almost 95% of imports in January-February.
