Scammers have started creating fake websites to sell a new MacBook Neo laptop, hoping to steal users' money amid increased interest in the device. This was reported to Izvestia on March 11 by BI.ZONE Digital Risk Protection specialists.

"The new gadget has an unusual price category — it's not a premium segment. The company positions the device as a youth device that is suitable for both schoolchildren and students. The MacBook Neo has simplified technical specifications, which makes the gadget more accessible to a wide audience," said the head of BI.ZONE Digital Risk Protection Dmitry Kiryushkin.

According to experts, since the beginning of March, more than 60 domains have been identified that can be used in fraudulent schemes related to the sale of the MacBook Neo. The activation of the attackers coincided with the presentation of the device at the beginning of the month and the official start of sales on March 11.

Experts note that attackers often disguise themselves as large companies and use their corporate identity — logos, design elements and other visual attributes. This increases user trust and helps scammers convince the victim to place an order.

As a rule, the deception scenario is based on a standard scheme. The user is offered to make a purchase on a fake website and is asked to specify the details of the bank card or click on the payment link. After that, the money is debited, but the buyer does not receive the goods.

"To protect yourself from such schemes, you should carefully study the resources where the purchase is planned. Very often, scammers create sites that are as similar as possible to the original ones in order to confuse users. The attackers also lure victims with low prices and burning offers. We recommend that you keep a high concentration and make purchases only on official websites and platforms," the experts noted.

Experts also advise making purchases only on the official websites of manufacturers and trusted trading platforms in order to reduce the risk of encountering such schemes.

On March 4, the Roskachestvo Digital Expertise Center reported that fraudsters were using a scheme to replace contacts on their phones, sending messages with fake offers and attaching a file with an extension.vcf, which updates the contact in the phone book when opened. According to the press service, scammers send messages via messengers or SMS, disguising them as notifications from banks, government agencies or open vacancies.
