- Hegseth said about the discussion of the settlement in Ukraine in a conversation between Putin and Trump
Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump discussed the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and the possibility of resolving the situation in Ukraine during a telephone conversation. This was announced on March 10 by Pentagon Chief Pete Hegseth at a press conference.
According to him, Trump maintains strong relations with world leaders, which provides Washington with certain opportunities and options for action.
"I wasn't there, but those who were said it was a strong conversation, confirming, hopefully, the possibility for some peace in the Russian-Ukrainian conflict," Hegseth said.
In addition, the head of the Pentagon said that during the conversation between the leaders, the topic of Iran was touched upon. Hegseth stressed that all US actions are ultimately aimed at protecting national interests.
According to him, the American side does not intend to put up with nuclear blackmail and threats of using missiles against its citizens. To do this, the Pentagon aims to eliminate the enemy's missile potential, defense industrial base, and naval forces in order to deprive it of the ability to project nuclear power.
"This is what is important for President Trump. This is something that is important to the American people. And ultimately, that is why we are so focused on achieving these goals and only these goals," concluded Hegseth.
On March 9, Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov spoke about Putin's telephone conversation with Trump. He stressed that the conversation focused on the situation around Iran, as well as on negotiations to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
Subsequently, the American leader said that the conversation with Putin was "positive." According to him, the Russian president expressed his desire to help resolve the conflict in the Middle East. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Trump did not demand an immediate cessation of hostilities in Ukraine.
