The Investigative Committee (IC) of Russia has organized an investigation into possible violations by officials of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Novosibirsk region. This was announced on March 10 by a source of Izvestia.

The inspection began after appeals from residents of the village of Kozikha in the Ordynsky district to the head of the department, Alexander Bastrykin, and President Vladimir Putin. Local residents reported that the administration did not provide documents confirming the connection between the quarantine and the subsequent seizure and destruction of their livestock.

Mass destruction of livestock is also carried out in other areas of the region due to outbreaks of pasteurellosis and rabies. In addition, 42 settlements have been quarantined due to rabies. According to officials, the cause of the outbreak of infections could be an abnormally snowy winter.

The regional government assured that the owners of the destroyed animals will receive compensation. The relevant documents of the department are being studied. The inspection is carried out under Article 293 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Negligence").

On March 7, the Ministry of Agriculture of the Novosibirsk region reported that livestock had been seized in several districts of the region due to an outbreak of rabies. It was noted that there is no threat to the life and health of the population. Local residents were urged to treat the situation with understanding, as well as vaccinate their animals.
