The number of opponents of carsharing has grown in Moscow
With the growing number of carsharing users in Moscow, the number of opponents of such services has also increased. Experts from the <url> financial marketplace told Izvestia about this on March 10, who interviewed Moscow motorists.
So, 18% of the survey participants who did not travel by carsharing this winter noted that they refused short-term car rental on principle. This is 6% more than a year earlier. Among respondents who deny carsharing, 41% are convinced that at any moment they may face a fine for damage caused by a previous passenger, 31% are afraid of damaging the car themselves, and 28% are confident that failures in determining geolocation will not allow them to complete the lease.
About a third (34%) of respondents who drive in Moscow have resorted to short-term car rental services this winter. This is 13% more than a year earlier. At the same time, 44% of the survey participants have their own personal cars. 37% of them immediately noted that they were prompted to use carsharing by parking problems: there are fewer and fewer free places even far from the center, and in some cases it is more profitable to use carsharing than to pay for parking.
Another 11% reported that they got into the nearest carsharing car when their car was covered with snow and there was no time to dig it out. At the same time, 29% took carsharing to visit or attend an event in order to save on a one-way taxi. 19% used carsharing because their personal car was defective, and repairs and maintenance were more expensive than all carsharing trips. 4% reported that they used carsharing to get to work in the morning and take the subway back, avoiding evening traffic jams.
As for those who did not have a private car, 56% took carsharing to avoid traveling by public transport with multiple transfers. Another 21% rented a car to go out of town, including to ski resorts in the Moscow region. 19% opted for carsharing due to rising taxi prices. Another 4% reacted to carsharing services, including when they offered to dig a car out of a snowdrift and receive bonuses that would cover the cost of the trip.
Earlier, on February 5, it was reported that in 2025, the activity of carsharing users in Russia was limited by the aggressive pricing policy of operators and excessive concentration on comfort-class cars, restrictions on the operation of the mobile Internet and geolocation services. The combination of these factors led to a general market trend towards a decrease in the number of trips, which was more actively observed in the second half of the year.
