A Russian woman who had previously been abducted in Myanmar was released from captivity. Ivan Melnikov, Vice-president of the Russian branch of the International Committee for the Protection of Human Rights, told Izvestia on March 10.

"She was held by force, and her passport was taken away after she entered Myanmar. Before that, she was offered a high-paying job as a model. The conditions were really very tempting, but in the end she ended up in slavery," he said.

According to Melnikov, the girl is currently in the harsh conditions of the temporary detention center for foreign citizens of Myanmar. It is noted that the prisoner was released thanks to the joint work of the Russian Interior Ministry in Thailand, the ECCC and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation. In addition, the Myanmar army unit participated in the operation, which organized a special operation in the border area with Thailand.

According to Melnikov, over 200 people were released from the same place. Most of them are Chinese citizens who had previously arrived in Thailand under the pretext of employment.

On February 3, the Russian Embassy in Thailand announced the release of a Russian woman from a fraudulent call center in Myanmar through the joint efforts of diplomats, Thai and Myanmar police. According to the diplomatic mission, a criminal network operates in Myanmar that recruits foreign citizens, including Russian citizens, for alleged employment in Thailand.
