More than 60% of Russians consider holding a wedding to be an overrated event, and almost half fear that preparations for the celebration may lead to a breakup. This was reported on March 11 in a study by the online psychotherapy service Yasno, the results of which are available to Izvestia.

"The study highlights a curious phenomenon: the declared skepticism towards the wedding and the deep anxiety about it exist in people at the same time, without contradicting each other. A person says to himself, "the wedding doesn't matter," but at the same time he is afraid that preparing for it will destroy the relationship, that the guests will be unhappy, that the holiday will not work," commented Maria Ignatieva, psychoanalytic psychotherapist, supervisor, director of customer support for the Yasno service.

It is specified that 2,000 Russians aged 18 to 55 from different regions of the country participated in the study. More than half of the respondents admitted that they had thought about holding a wedding at least once. At the same time, 36% believe that the celebration helps to publicly announce the new status of the couple, and one in four considers it as an important holiday for the families of the newlyweds. At the same time, 63% of respondents are convinced that the wedding has no special significance. Of these, 21% are ready to hold a holiday only in the absence of financial difficulties, and 13% consider the wedding itself to be a formality that can be dispensed with.

The study also showed that among the stable ideas about the wedding, a third of Russians believe that the celebration should be magnificent and large-scale. In addition, 27% of respondents believe that gifts from guests should cover the cost of the holiday. At the same time, about 48% of the survey participants admitted that they were afraid that preparations for the wedding could lead to a breakup. Another 34% fear that they will not be able to fully enjoy the celebration due to excitement and responsibility, and 26% worry that the holiday will not impress their loved ones.

To reduce anxiety before the wedding, the majority of Russians consider it important to support their loved ones, 67% of the study participants said. Another 38% believe that taking a break from training will help, while 25% consider delegating organizational tasks to specialists to be effective. One in five also noted that working on an emotional state and maintaining a stable daily routine help to prepare for an important event.

Psychologist Sergey Lang reported on February 18 that men often experience separation harder than women. At the same time, the expert noted that society often perceives a man after a divorce as a negative character.
