Search area for missing children expanded in Zvenigorod
The search area for three missing children has been expanded in Zvenigorod near Moscow, and another section of the river will be examined for this, the press service of the main regional directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation reported on March 9.
"The operational headquarters decided to expand the search area and inspect an additional section of the river one km upstream," the department's Telegram channel said.
The search operation is conducted around the clock. Experts are examining the bottom and the subglacial space in detail. Special sonar equipment is used.
Employees of the Moscow Regional Rescue Service, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, members of the organizations LizaAlert, Spas Grad, and the Dobrotvorets diving group are also involved in the work. Representatives of other relevant departments and organizations have been involved. According to TASS, 198.4 km of the Moskva River water area has been surveyed so far, but the search has not yet yielded results.
Three children, a 13-year-old girl, Alina, and two 12-year-old boys, Ivan and Bogdan, disappeared in the Zvenigorod area on March 7. One of the fishermen reported that he saw children drowning in the river, but did not inform the emergency services because another witness of the incident called 112.
A criminal case has been opened into the disappearance of the teenagers. The head of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, Alexander Bastrykin, requested a report on the investigation. On March 8, the LizaAlert volunteer search and rescue team reported that almost 500 people had taken part in the search for children. Andrey Chernov, coordinator of the LizaAlert search and rescue team, told Izvestia on March 9 that the dramatic warming and strong river changes had complicated the search for missing children.
