The IKI RAS reported the formation of a new coronal hole in the Sun
A new coronal hole has formed on the Sun in recent years. This was announced on March 10 at the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy of the IKI RAS.
"The impact on the Earth from it (holes. — Ed.) is expected starting from Saturday, March 14th. Up to this point, almost complete calm is predicted," the message on the Telegram channel says.
According to scientists, over the past day, the geomagnetic situation remained calm, and the flare activity was moderately increased. Around midnight, a C7.8 level flare occurred in the Sun, which became the most powerful since February 25. According to scientists, it will not have a geomagnetic effect on the Earth.
It adds that the probability of geomagnetic disturbances during the day is estimated at 20%, the probability of weak magnetic storms is 7%. For the next two days, these figures, according to scientists, will decrease to 10% and 3%.
On March 6, the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy of the IKI RAS and the ISSF SB RAS reported that weak magnetic storms are possible on Earth during the day due to the impact of a coronal hole on the Sun. New spots were also recorded on the surface of the Sun, which had little effect on the observation charts. However, astronomers do not expect a serious surge in activity yet.
