It became known about a new fraudulent scheme with electronic wallets
Fraudsters began to lure out scans of documents to open electronic wallets, pretending to be "intermediaries for registration of foreign passports." This was announced on March 10 in the press service of the Moshelovka platform of the Popular Front.
"Intermediaries are actively advertised on the Internet offering "passport registration in 3 days without waiting in line", "visa to any country without refusal" or "urgent passport replacement". The service requires 100% prepayment and sending scans of current passports, SNILS, and INN," RIA Novosti quoted the press service as saying.
According to experts, after receiving payment, communication with such "agencies" usually stops. The attackers use the transferred documents to register electronic wallets, through which the stolen funds are then withdrawn.
Experts noted that people planning foreign trips are of particular interest to scammers.
In Moshelovka, it was recommended to apply for a foreign passport personally through the MFC, the departments of the Ministry of Internal Affairs or the official Gosuslugi portal. When contacting visa centers and travel agencies, experts recommend checking their availability in official registers beforehand.
On March 6, the Department for combating the illegal use of information and communication technologies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia reported that fraudsters began using sellers' accounts on marketplaces to deceive customers. The department urged citizens to take precautions. Customers are advised not to go to instant messengers to place orders and not to pay for goods using links sent outside of official services.
