France is preparing an operation to escort ships in the Strait of Hormuz. This was announced on March 9 by French leader Emmanuel Macron during his visit to Cyprus.

"We are in the process of creating a purely defensive, purely escort mission, which should be prepared jointly with both European and non—European states," the France24 TV channel quoted him as saying.
