The White House denied US plans for a ground operation against Iran
US President Donald Trump does not intend to launch a ground operation against Iran yet, but such an option is not ruled out in the future. This was announced on March 8 by White House press Secretary Caroline Leavitt.
"This is not part of our current plan. But the president leaves all options under consideration," she told Fox News.
Leavitt added that the head of state, being the supreme commander-in-chief, continues to assess the success of the launched military operation.
The Axios portal earlier on March 8, citing sources, indicated that the White House administration was discussing the possibility of establishing military control over the Iranian island of Kharq in the Persian Gulf, which is of strategic importance because of the oil terminal located there.
Farhad Ibragimov, an expert on Iran and a lecturer at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Mass Communications at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, told Izvestia on March 7 that a US ground operation against Iran was not ruled out, although it was initially considered impossible. At the same time, the expert added that for the United States, deploying its military on the ground would be a gesture of desperation and a blow to American interests in the Middle East region.
