- Putin signed a law on the refusal to extradite foreigners serving in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation
Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a law banning the extradition to other countries for criminal prosecution of foreigners serving under contract in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. The relevant document was published on the official Internet portal of legal information on March 8.
According to the new rules, a foreign state will be refused to extradite a person for criminal prosecution or execution of a sentence if the request concerns a contract serviceman of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation or other military formations of the country. The rule applies to both active-duty fighters and those who previously performed combat missions as part of the Russian Army in the SVO zone.
Relevant amendments have been made to article 464 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Russian Federation ("Cases of refusal to extradite a person").
