France pointed to the possibility of Kiev losing US support due to Hungary
The aggressive position of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in the situation with the confiscation of money in Hungary may lead to Kiev losing support from the United States. This was announced on March 7 by the leader of the French Patriots party, Florian Philippot.
"Aren't you ashamed? It's better to admit your mistake, rather than threaten Hungary for this money. But the situation itself is just a slap in the face for Zelensky, although it is completely fair," Philippot said in a video on the YouTube channel.
He noted that Zelensky's statements about Hungary and its authorities, according to him, caused outrage in Budapest and Brussels. The politician also called the conflict between the Ukrainian leader and the Hungarian authorities "a completely unprecedented situation."
On March 6, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine announced the seizure of seven Oschadbank cash collectors at the Hungarian customs. According to the head of the department, Andriy Sibiga, all seven were employees of the bank and were accompanied by two wagons that regularly transport funds between Ukraine and Austria.
Hungary's National Tax and Customs Service has confirmed the detention of seven Ukrainian citizens, including a former intelligence general. The detained cars contained $40 million, €35 million and 9 kg of gold.
Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto, in turn, demanded that Ukraine explain the incident with the illegal transportation of money. According to the diplomat, since January 2026, $900 million, 420 million euros and 146 kg of gold have been transported through Hungary.
