Wang Yi ruled out turning Taiwan into a separate country
Taiwan is a historical territory of China, it has never been and will never be a separate state. This was announced on March 8 by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
"Taiwan has been a Chinese territory since ancient times and has never been, is not, and will never become any country," Wang Yi is quoted as saying on the ministry's website.
He noted that the separatist position of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) on the island is the main cause of concern in the Taiwan Strait. According to him, in order to achieve peace and stability on this issue, the international community must support the "one China" principle.
The report of the 4th session of the National People's Congress of the 14th convocation, published on March 5, stated that China intends to work towards reunification with Taiwan, and will also launch "decisive strikes" against separatists advocating the island's independence.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said in January that the Taiwan issue was an internal matter of China. She added that external influence on the situation from other countries is unacceptable.
