Russell wins the Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix

Mercedes team driver George Russell from Great Britain won the Australian Grand Prix, the first stage of the Formula 1 championship in the 2026 season. The competition was held on March 8 in Melbourne.

The second place was taken by the pilot from his own team, Kimi Antonelli from Italy. Ferrari driver Charles Leclair from Monaco came in third place.

The next stage of the Formula 1 championship will be held in China from March 13 to March 15.

The day before, Russell won the Australian Grand Prix qualification. He was able to complete his best lap in 1 minute 18.5 seconds. His teammate Andrea Kimi Antonelli finished second. Izak Adjar rounded out the top three.

On the same day, Red Bull team driver Max Verstappen was involved in an accident during the first qualifying segment of the Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix. The incident occurred 7 minutes and 50 seconds before the end of the first part of qualifying.
