Interpreters play an important role in negotiations between international leaders and must accurately convey the essence of the conversation. This was announced on March 7 by the American leader Donald Trump during a speech at the Shield of America summit.

According to him, a poor-quality translation can create a false impression in one of the leaders about the conversation and its outcome, when in reality the conversation could not have gone so well. The politician spoke about such doubts using the example of negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

"You know, if you have a bad translator, you think that everything went well: 'Well, great, I talked to this person.' Or: "How did I do well in a conversation with Putin today? Did I have a good conversation with President Xi?" said Trump.
