Two Russian skiers, Arina Kusurgasheva and Alina Kudisova, fell during the 50 km mass start at the 2026 Russian Championships. In Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, where the competition is taking place, on March 7, a dog ran onto the track.

The animal appeared in front of a group of skiers at one of the sites, which led to a collision. Kudisova fell first, followed by Kusurgasheva, who lost her balance.

Kusurgasheva continued to move, but Kudisova could not immediately get up. The skier started crying, probably injured, and had to withdraw from the race, although she was in the lead group.

During the qualification of the women's team sprint on February 18 at the Olympic Games in Italy, a dog ran onto the ski slope. The incident happened at the finish line, when Croatian skier Tena Hadjic was completing the race. The animal did not show aggression towards the athletes, having managed to sniff the Argentine skier in the finish area. The appearance of the animal did not affect the qualification results.
