The scammers tried to deceive a relative of a missing participant in a special military operation (SVO) by contacting her on TikTok from a fake account allegedly belonging to a member of the Russian Red Cross (RKK). This was announced on March 7 by a representative of the organization's press service in an interview with RIA Novosti.

The attackers used a TikTok account called "Red Cross" to get in touch with the woman, although she did not publish information about the missing loved one on this platform. During the correspondence, she was given the contact of an alleged "volunteer" in Telegram, who already in personal communication called the name and call sign of the wanted man, offering "help" in the search without any details.

The woman, suspecting deception, contacted the official representatives of the RKK on her own to check whether a volunteer of the organization had actually spoken to her.

"This scenario is especially alarming because scammers get in touch directly, and not all relatives will ask additionally. And such accounts do everything possible to build trust and involve a person in further communication," the press service emphasized.

Evgeny Masharov, a member of the commission of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation for the public examination of draft laws and other regulations, reported on March 5 that fraudsters began extorting personal data of apartment building residents by posing as Mosenergosbyt employees in house-wide chat rooms. According to him, such employees never collect information in this way and work in accordance with Russian law.
