Cyprus may soon raise the issue of the future fate of the British military bases on the island. This was stated on March 6 by President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulides after a meeting in Nicosia with the head of the British foreign intelligence Service MI6, Blaze Metreveli.

According to him, this can be done after the end of the conflict in the Middle East.

"The [official] government representative [Konstantinos Letimpiotis] and the Minister of Foreign Affairs [Konstantinos Kombos] have already been asked about this. And I'm not ruling anything out," the politician said.

Christodoulidis did not provide details of the content of the meeting with Metreveli, indicating that this could not be discussed in public.

On March 5, Sky News TV channel, citing a representative of the British Ministry of Defense, reported that a drone had attacked the Akrotiri airbase in southern Cyprus. It is assumed that the drone was not launched from the territory of Iran, but it looks like an Iranian Shahed-type attack UAV, which is used in the war zone in the Middle East.

All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
