Azerbaijani Ambassador named the number of refugees from Iran
More than 1.5 thousand people from 55 countries have moved to Azerbaijan across the border with Iran. The republic's ambassador to Russia, Rahman Mustafayev, told Izvestia on March 6.
"As of March 6, more than 1.5 thousand people, citizens of 55 countries, crossed the Azerbaijani border from Iran. They include ordinary citizens, employees of diplomatic missions, companies, various organizations and their family members," Mustafayev stressed.
At the same time, 460 Chinese citizens, about 300 Azerbaijani citizens, 265 Russian citizens, and almost 150 Tajik citizens are among them. The ambassador clarified that these are "the most numerous country groups." At the moment, the evacuation process is ongoing, so the indicators may change.
According to Mustafayev, Azerbaijan not only provides an opportunity for a safe transition, but also provides food, transport and, if necessary, medical care. He noted that as before, during periods of sharp escalation of the situation in the Middle East, Azerbaijan remains a reliable and safe transit hub for citizens of many countries in need of returning to their homeland.
The day before, the head of the European Diplomacy, Kaya Kallas, said that European countries fear increased migration pressure due to the escalation in the Middle East. She added that the European Union should be prepared for the influx of refugees from these countries.
