The North Atlantic Alliance, amid the crisis in the Middle East, has increased the readiness level of the missile defense system in Europe, Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, head of the alliance's Military Committee, announced on March 6.

"In response to the changing security situation, the Supreme Commander of the NATO Joint Armed Forces in Europe (SACEUR) has increased the readiness level of the alliance's missile defense system," he said on the social network X (former. Twitter).

Dragone added that this measure highlights NATO's ability to respond promptly, decisively and collectively to emerging threats.

Russian Deputy Security Council Chairman Dmitry Medvedev noted on March 5 that the countries of the North Atlantic Alliance had "gone nuts." He pointed out that now NATO is seriously discussing the possibility of applying the fifth article of the Washington Treaty in order to assist the US authorities.

On the same day, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte announced that the bloc would not apply Article 5 of the alliance's Charter in connection with the incident with the Iranian missile in Turkey. Rutte stressed that NATO unequivocally condemns what happened and will remain alert, protecting every inch of its territory.
