Bouquet romance: Russians' spending on flowers increased by almost 10% before March 8
According to analysts, the average cost of a bouquet reached 4,270 rubles by March 8, 2026, which is 9% higher than in the last week of February. In search of savings, Russians are increasingly choosing flowers in bundles: unprocessed stems without packaging and floral assembly are cheaper. Among the leaders in demand are tulips, as well as dianthuses, chrysanthemums and alstroemeria. For more information about prices and popular bouquet options, see the Izvestia article.
The cost of a bouquet before Women's Day
In March, Russians' spending on flowers increased by about 9% compared to the last week of February, analysts told Izvestia. On average, a bouquet now costs almost 4.3 thousand rubles, said Veronika Peretyagina, head of the department for attracting and supporting sellers of the Flowwow flower and gift marketplace.
— Now flowers are ordered by both ordinary users and corporate clients, — she said. — On average, the latter are willing to spend a little more on a gift to employees and business partners, this affects the growth of the average receipt.
Flowers in bundles are popular with customers — these are unprocessed stems that are sold at lower prices due to savings on packaging and the work of a florist. The flowers are self-packaged and assembled into compositions.
— As for the prices of bouquets, the situation is uneven, — Veronika Peretyagina added. —An average of 272 rubles are spent on buying one tulip in March — a bouquet of 15 pieces costs about 4 thousand rubles," the expert added. — Over the year, the indicator increased by 8.1%. But the average receipt for the purchase of a bouquet of 15 roses, on the contrary, decreased by 8.9% to 4.9 thousand. The decrease is due to the transition of buyers to more affordable varieties.
In addition to classic bouquets, there is now a trend for primroses in the ground: hyacinths, daffodils and muscari. They do not require complex care, but stand longer than a bouquet, allowing you to observe how the flowers form and bloom.
— Another trend is the amaryllis bulb in wax, — said Veronika Peretyagina. — In 2026, a composition with primroses will cost about 3 thousand rubles, and amaryllis — 3.8 thousand rubles.
What flowers do Russians choose?
The traditional leader in demand by March 8 is tulips. The next most popular are dianthuses, chrysanthemums and alstroemeria. According to Cooper, the average receipt and dynamics are stable: in 2025, an average of 1.1 bouquets per month were ordered in the amount of 3.3 thousand rubles.
Most often, users ordered a combined composition of alstroemeria-roses-dianthuses-chrysanthemums. Next in the top three are roses — red and French pale pink.
— This is followed by peony-shaped roses with eucalyptus. In fifth place is the rose—chrysanthemum-dianthus composition," they added.
Russians also try to collect expressive bouquets with character, said Natalia Kolganova, a florist at the FMART by flowwow flower studio chain. For these, French roses with inverted petals are often used, which look almost theatrical, and ranunculi are a bit "alien", layered, with a deep middle.
— They are chosen instead of classic roses when you want something more sophisticated and modern. There is a noticeable interest in saturated shades — wine, powdery, fuchsia, — said the florist. — Another bright trend is the flowering branches in the bouquet. Magnolia, cherry, and apple trees add height and architecture to the composition. The bouquet ceases to be just a round shape — it becomes a multi-level, almost interior object. Such compositions are actively bought both as a gift and for the home.
In addition, they began to choose monochrome bouquets more often, but not from the same color, but with stretching within the range: from dark greens to pistachio and light green, from powdery to more saturated pink. This creates depth and makes the composition visually challenging, even if there are few positions in it.
According to Natalia Kolganova, the bouquet should be a continuation of character.
— For example, delicate, "dusty" roses or other pastel—colored flowers are not suitable for a bright, temperamental girl, - says the florist. — This is the kind of bouquet you need-emotion: expressive, with texture and dynamics. These are gerberas, asters, dahlias, sunflowers, exotic proteas, and the shape of the bouquet should be asymmetrical.
Monochrome mood bouquets will be closer to a melancholic nature: eucalyptus, dried flowers, laconic irises or hydrangeas in soothing tones. The aesthete girl will like peony-shaped roses, hydrangeas, tulips in delicate shades. And it is better to give a monobook made of noble and strict colors to a strong, energetic and purposeful one. These can be calla lilies, orchids or tulips of dark shades.
—Moms are more often given bouquets that they want to put on the kitchen table and admire them every day," the expert added. — These can be large white chrysanthemums, cream dianthuses, eustoma, mattiola or soft garden assemblages. Sisters, as a rule, choose lighter and more characteristic bouquets. For example, small but expressive compositions — ranunculi with flowering twigs, hyacinths with tulips, monobuckets of tulips of different varieties and shades: smoky purple, complex pink peony-shaped inflorescences.
In addition to flowers, organizations give chocolate-covered strawberries, bento cakes and sets of sweets to customers and employees.
Why are flower prices rising?
It is necessary to choose flowers correctly so that they do not wither immediately, said Yuri Ilvachev, Key Account Manager at Grodan (ROCKWOOL business unit).
— Often the choice falls on a fully opened bud, which looks spectacular, but this appearance may indicate the final stage of flowering, — said the expert. — To make the bouquet last longer, it is better to choose half-open buds, dense at the base, with elastic petals.
A fresh flower should have a rich green and elastic stem, without spots, secretions and an unpleasant smell of dampness. It is also important that it is thick, this contributes to better vase resistance. In roses, for example, as a rule, the leaves are green, without yellowing at the edges and lethargy. Withered foliage indicates loss of moisture, and its absence indicates damage to flowers during transportation.
With an external increase in spending, the buyer has become much more rational, said Igor Rastorguev, a leading analyst at AMarkets.
— People haven't stopped giving flowers, but they approach it more pragmatically, — said the expert. — Hence the trend towards "flowers in bundles" — in fact, it is a return to the essence of the gift, a rejection of the marketing wrapper. The buyer says: "I'm willing to pay for the flower itself, but I don't want to overpay for the floral design and packaging, which will be thrown away in a day."
The reasons for the price dynamics are in the market structure, Igor Rastorguev explained. Dependence on imports is still high — about 75-78%.
"It would seem that this should constantly push prices up," he added. — But this year, multidirectional factors have worked. In particular, logistics and imports: only from February 1 to February 25, 8.8 thousand tons of flowers were delivered — 75% more than usual, and this creates pressure on prices. Their surge is also being held back by the strengthening of the ruble and the growing supply from domestic greenhouses.
The business adjusts: the rose on the shelf goes from the purchase price of 42 rubles per stem to the retail price of 185, and this difference includes not only the services of intermediaries, but also the real costs of international logistics, storage and losses.
— We are witnessing a structural restructuring of consumption. The total turnover of the flower market reached about 450 billion rubles last year," Igor Rastorguev recalled.
At the same time, the profitability of classic flower shops is falling, but the online segment is showing explosive growth - the number of purchases there has increased by 14%, and turnover by 20%. According to the expert, the industry is maturing: spontaneous purchases at a stall near the house with a large margin are leaving, and an informed choice is coming. And this is an absolutely healthy trend.
