The United States does not want Iran to be led by a leader like the assassinated Supreme leader Ali Khamenei. This was stated by the President of the United States, Donald Trump, in an interview with Time magazine on March 5.

"I'm not going to go through this to get another Khamenei. I want to participate in the selection process," the American leader said.

According to him, Washington intends to make sure that the new head of state will be reasonable towards the United States. Trump also expects to "play a role" in the formation of a new government in Iran.

The New York Times reported earlier in the day that Iran postponed the appointment of a new supreme leader after the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei for security reasons. Mohsen Kumi, a member of the Presidium of the Council of Experts on the Leadership of Iran, noted on March 5 that the process of selecting a new supreme leader of the country is at the final stage. According to him, the procedure is carried out in accordance with the Constitution and the internal regulations of the council.

The son of Iran's supreme leader Ali Khamenei, Mojataba Khamenei, who was killed as a result of a military operation by the United States and Israel, has become the main candidate for his father's post. In turn, Trump declared the candidacy of Khamenei's son for the post of leader of Iran unacceptable.
