- Szijjarto demanded from Ukraine an explanation of the incident with the illegal transportation of money
Hungary demands from Ukraine an explanation of the incident involving the illegal transportation of money. This was announced on March 6 by Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto on Facebook (owned by Meta, a company whose activities are recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).
According to the diplomat, since January 2026, $900 million, 420 million euros and 146 kg of gold have been transported through Hungary. These shipments are accompanied by people who are clearly connected with the special services of Kiev.
"We demand immediate answers and explanations from the Ukrainian side. <...> Until this happens, the Hungarian authorities will, of course, conduct the most thorough and in—depth investigation," he said.
On March 6, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga accused Hungary of allegedly seizing seven Ukrainian bank employees. According to him, they serviced two bank wagons that run between Austria and Ukraine and transport cash as part of regular transactions between state-owned banks.
Hungary's National Tax and Customs Service has confirmed the detention of seven Ukrainian citizens, including a former intelligence general, on suspicion of money laundering. The detained cars contained $40 million, €35 million and 9 kg of gold. A money laundering case has been initiated.
