In Moscow, 70% of traffic lights are connected to artificial intelligence
Today, 70% of all traffic lights in Moscow are connected to artificial intelligence. The mayor of the capital, Sergei Sobyanin, told about this in his channel on MAX.
In 2025, traffic light data began to be transmitted to navigation services, a practice unique not only for Russia but also for Europe, Sobyanin stressed. A video analytics system has also been launched in the capital, which recognizes a tram on the road and gives it priority for travel.
In 2026, Moscow plans to increase the share of "smart" traffic lights and, for the first time in the world, launch a pilot project to manage the traffic of an entire neighborhood using artificial intelligence in Tushin, the mayor shared.
In addition, he noted that the level of road safety in the city is growing due to the construction of pedestrian crossings, speed changes, the installation of new traffic lights and traffic cameras. Last year, about 700 such events were carried out.
Earlier, on February 21, it became known that Moscow has become a leader in road safety in 2025. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the death toll in road accidents on the capital's roads was 2.2 people per 100,000 population.
