The doctor spoke about the risk of having a child with genetic diseases
The risk of having a child with a hereditary genetic disease is about 1%, which is higher than the chance of getting into a car accident within a year. This was announced on March 6 by Denis Rebrikov, a molecular biologist, geneticist, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Vice-rector for Research at Pirogov University.
In an interview with "Gazeta. The doctor added that the chance of having a child with disabilities is high in closed ethnic or religious groups.
"In closed ethnic or religious groups, where marriages take place within the community, the probability of matching mutations is even higher. For example, certain hereditary diseases are common among Ashkenazi Jews, so it is customary in Israel to conduct genetic testing before a wedding," Rebrikov noted.
The doctor also informed about modern genetic testing and the importance of passing it.
"The study of the exome (coding regions of genes) of one person costs about 40 thousand rubles, and it will cost 80 thousand rubles for a couple. This is a one—time analysis, the results of which will remain relevant for life," said Rebrikov.
On March 5, Olga Kharlamova, dentist, founder of STOMTECH PRO, spoke about ways to overcome fear of dentists. According to her, discussing all the details of the upcoming treatment helps to reduce anxiety levels.
