Politico reported on the disruption of Ukraine's accelerated accession to the EU
The EU member states opposed Ukraine's accelerated accession to the EU. The proposal was rejected during the discussion at the dinner of the ambassadors of the EU member states in Brussels, which took place on March 4. This was reported by Politico on March 5.
It is clarified that the "reverse expansion" plan, which consists of five points and assumes accelerated accession of Ukraine to the EU, was not supported by France, Germany and Hungary.
"The signal from the European capitals was very clear. It's over. We want to see Ukraine in the EU, but we cannot change our procedures and cancel the current criteria system. Now we need to look for a new realistic way forward," Politico quotes the words of a European diplomat.
Deputy head of the ruling Smer party and MEP Lubos Blaha said on March 5 that Slovakia would not allow Ukraine to join the EU in 2027 due to corruption and the behavior of the Kiev leadership. According to the politician, Kiev is absolutely not ready to join the union.
