The Kremlin pointed to the possibility of stopping the conflict in the Middle East
An armed conflict in the Middle East can only be stopped by the one who started it. This was announced on March 5 by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
The Russian president's spokesman stressed that Moscow is not capable of stopping the fighting in the Middle East.
"Her (war. — Ed.) can be stopped by the one who started it. What should they do, from our point of view," he said in an interview with the news agency Vesti.
He noted that Russia is witnessing an ever-growing number of countries involved in this war. At the same time, the Kremlin representative stressed that Moscow should benefit for itself wherever possible.
Peskov also said earlier in the day that Iran had not asked Russia for help in connection with the military actions. He noted that there are currently no changes on this issue.
On March 5, Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu noted that Russia is in constant contact with Iran and the Gulf states, and is ready to play an active role in the peace process.
Prior to that, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Russia, together with its partners, would do everything to help create an atmosphere that would make a military operation against Iran impossible. He also expressed doubt as to how much it would be possible to help by moral and political means, but stressed the need to do everything to make the voice of the overwhelming majority of the world community heard.
