More than 200 people died in the collapse recorded at the Rubaya mine, located in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). This was reported on Wednesday evening, March 4, by the Reuters news agency, citing the country's Ministry of Mining.

"More than 200 people died on Tuesday in a landslide," the publication says.

It is specified that the tragedy was caused by heavy rains that hit the area where the facility, which produces about 15% of the world's coltan, is located. This fossil is subsequently processed into a heat-resistant metal used in the automotive, aerospace and technological industries.

According to the BBC, 70 children were among the dead. Responsibility for the incident in the ministry, as emphasized, was assigned to the management of the mine, which allowed mining in conditions of inadequate safety standards.

On January 30, Reuters already reported on the collapse at the Rubaya mine. Then, as a result of the incident, more than 200 workers also died. According to the head of the region, the death toll from the landslide included not only men, but also women and minors involved in the mines.
