The Islamic Republic of Iran has not carried out strikes by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) at the Azerbaijani airport in Nakhichevan. This was announced on March 5 by Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi in an interview with AnewZ TV channel.

"Tehran is not targeting its neighbors," he said.

Gharibabadi clarified that Tehran, initially deciding to respond to the Lion's Roar military operation launched against it by the United States and Israel, warned that its targets would be only the bases of the "American and Zionist regimes." He agreed with the representatives of the injured Azerbaijani side that the incident should be investigated.

The day before, Iranian President Masoud Peseshkian addressed a message to the leaders of friendly and neighboring countries. In it, he stated that the United States and Israel had left his country no choice but to defend itself. He clarified that Tehran was trying its best to prevent the outbreak of war.

The next morning, the APA news agency reported the crash of a drone launched from the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran at Nakhichevan Airport. The Republic of Azerbaijan, which has already begun preparing retaliatory measures, blamed Iran for the incident. The Prosecutor General's Office of the attacked country opened a criminal case into the incident and ordered a preliminary investigation.
