Temperature fluctuations that occur in early spring significantly increase the risk of snow and ice coming off roofs, canopies and other structures. If the car was damaged in such a situation, you can try to get a refund without a hard hat policy. Yegor Lysoy, head of the Sberbank Insurance Retail Loss Settlement Center, told Izvestia on March 5.

So, in case of damage to the car, you must first report the incident to your insurance company: experts will advise you on what steps to take next and what documents will be required. Then you should record the circumstances of the incident — take photos and videos of the scene from different angles, including the general plan of the territory, the building or structure from which the snowfall occurred, visible damage and the license plate number of the car.

At the same time, it is possible to remove ice or debris only after the incident is registered by police officers, the expert warned. You need to call them by phone 102 or 112. Then all the collected materials should be transferred to the insurance company.

"The possibility of compensation remains even in the absence of a hard hat policy. The organization or the person responsible for the maintenance of the building may be found guilty in such situations. It can be a management company, the owner of the facility, or an operating organization," Lysoy said.

As a rule, a pre-trial claim is sent first with a description of the circumstances, calculation of damages and supporting documents. In case of refusal, the issue is resolved in court. The court evaluates whether the driver followed the parking rules and did not follow the warning signs or announcements. If there were no violations, the court may order the responsible party to pay damages — as a rule, the decision is enforceable within 30 days. The chances of compensation decrease when parking a car under a warning sign or when the driver ignores the notification about cleaning the roof, the specialist explained.

Earlier, on March 3, in the Basmanny district of Moscow, ice blocks that fell from the roof of a building pierced two cars. Ice damaged a BMW and Toyota parked at a house on Myasnitskaya Street. The windshield and rear windows of the cars are broken. At the time of the incident, the driver of one car was in the cabin and cut his hands with shrapnel.
