Humennik expressed regret about his performance at the Olympics
On March 5, Russian figure skater Pyotr Gumennik shared his impressions of his performance at the Olympic Games.
According to the athlete, his main disappointment is related to a technical error made on the first day of the competition.
"I did everything I could in preparation, I wouldn't want to change anything. The only thing I regret is the first cascade in the short program, where I made 4-2, not 4-3. Maybe if I had made 4-3, it would have added points to me," the Championship quoted Humennik as saying.
The skater also touched upon the psychological pressure at a tournament of this level.
"I hope that the experience gained will help me further in serious and scary competitions where you worry a lot. It seems that after the Olympics you will feel easier about all this," he said.
After the short program, Humennik took only 12th place with a score of 86.72 points. However, in the free skate, the athlete demonstrated a roll with five quadruple jumps, earning 184.49 points. This allowed him to rise to the final sixth place (271.21 points). The Japanese Xiong Sato (274.90) was 3.69 points short of the third place, which was taken by the Russian.
Despite finishing off the podium, Humennik stressed that he was pleased with his debut.
"I did everything I could. I've been preparing for this start for a very long time, and I was well prepared. He is capable of everything he has stated, and he has done exactly what he has stated. The emotions are extremely positive," said the figure skater.
The athlete added that he felt tremendous relief and joy from the clean execution of the free program at a crucial moment.
"In the evening, when I came to the room, I thought a little, I sat there, but on the whole, the joy of being able to perform here and perform well overcame everything else," Peter admitted.
Humennik expects to keep his place in the international ring and compete for Olympic medals in four years, the newspaper Sport-Express added.
At the Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo, Humennik took sixth place. The athlete competed in a neutral status, without national symbols, under the 13th number.
