Customs officers in Transbaikalia detained a tourist with 16 bear claws
A foreigner who tried to take 16 bear claws out of Russia was detained at the Zabaikalsky international automobile checkpoint. This is reported by the press service of the Far Eastern Customs Administration.
The man was traveling to China. During the inspection of his luggage, the inspector noticed unusual objects that looked like parts of a wild animal. The examination confirmed that these were dried bear claws with remnants of soft tissues weighing 300 grams.
According to the tourist, the claws were given to him by a friend from Russia. He assured that he did not know that in order to transport such items, it was necessary not only to fill out a passenger customs declaration, but also to obtain permits in advance from Rosprirodnadzor and Rosselkhoznadzor.
The claws were removed and sent for examination to determine the species of the animal. Chita customs is conducting an investigation into the incident.
According to the ChitaMedia news agency, claws belong to derivatives, that is, parts of animal bodies that fall under the CITES Convention of March 3, 1973. Bears of all populations and their derivatives are under international protection.
Earlier, Izvestia wrote that in 2025, customs officers stopped a series of daring attempts to illegally import and export exotic animals. They tried to bring Red Book parrots from Central Asia, exotic beetles from Peru, and even raw jellyfish meat from Vietnam to Russia, a product that is dangerous to health.
