Yevgeny Ufimtsev, head of the All-Russian Union of Insurers (VSS), said on March 5 that although the cost of cancer treatment in Russia can reach several million rubles, a significant number of patients have the opportunity to receive this care for free under a compulsory medical insurance policy.

"The vast majority of patients with oncopathology receive medical care under compulsory health insurance. And that includes many highly effective medications. In modern conditions, all treatment of a patient under compulsory medical insurance costs an average of several million rubles," Ufimtsev commented in an interview with RIA Novosti.

He also noted that many oncological diseases are successfully treated in Russia. The head of the VSS noted that there may be queues for certain procedures and studies within the framework of compulsory medical insurance.

"This is not a violation, they do not exceed the established standards, but in this case, of course, it is better to receive treatment as soon as possible," Ufimtsev stressed.

That is why, he added, along with free medical care, voluntary health insurance is actively developing in Russia, and, in particular, the demand for voluntary cancer insurance programs is growing.

On February 4, Natalia Kharina, Director of Medical Insurance at Sberbank, named ways not to miss cancer at an early stage. According to her, oncological diseases can develop at any age, although the risk does increase over the years.
