Guberniev linked Bolshunov's non-admission to the Olympics with his citizenship
Sports commentator Dmitry Guberniev said that the reason for the non-admission of Russian skier Alexander Bolshunov to the 2026 Winter Olympics was his Russian passport. He told about it on March 4 in a comment to the publication "Soviet Sport".
"The non-admission was due to the fact that Bolshunov is a Russian. This is segregation by passport," he said.
According to Guberniev, the athlete's suspension is not related to competition on the track. He noted that he did not consider the version about the possible influence on the decision by Norwegian skier Johannes Klebo to be justified.
The commentator added that, in his opinion, the issue is related specifically to the athlete's citizenship. He also noted that only two Russian representatives were allowed to participate in the competition, while the rest of the athletes did not have the opportunity to compete at the Olympics.
Bolshunov said on March 3 that he had received offers to change his sports citizenship in order to participate in the XXIII Winter Olympic Games in 2026, but refused them. According to him, there are things more important than profitable offers.
Earlier, on February 21, Bolshunov, while in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk waiting for the start of the Russian championship, shared that he was no longer interested in broadcasts from Italy. According to him, you can come to skiathlon, pick up medals and leave, so such competitions are a circus.
