Douglas McGregor, an adviser to the head of the Pentagon, said that Iran is likely to be able to withstand the current confrontation, while the United States may eventually be forced to leave the Middle East. He said this on the YouTube channel of Glen Diesen, a professor at the University of Southeastern Norway.

"We are at the beginning of what is essentially a long regional war," he said.

According to the expert, what is happening in the Middle East is already affecting many regions of the world, including India, Northeast Asia, Turkey and Europe. McGregor added that the conflict could have serious economic consequences for the United States. He also said that against the background of what is happening, the American economy and financial system are facing serious challenges.

"The dollar is losing speed and altitude. From an economic point of view, this is a disaster. Financially, I think this is a disaster for the United States," McGregor stressed.

The expert expressed the opinion that over time, the Gulf states may oppose the US presence in the region. In this case, according to him, Washington will have to gradually reduce its military presence.

McGregor added that prolonging the conflict, in his opinion, could weaken the positions of the United States and Israel, while Iran would look like a more stable player. He also pointed to the situation in Iraq, where some political forces are in favor of the withdrawal of American troops, noting that such processes may intensify.

Glen Diesen, a professor at the University of Southeastern Norway, called the US strikes on Iran a huge historical mistake on March 2. He also called the events taking place a predictable catastrophe, when the boundaries of objectivity are blurred, and militarism is disguised as patriotism.

Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin noted on the same day that the world has entered a phase of tension and conflict, which only states with a high level of consolidation of society can overcome. He noted that Russia is now going through trials and, overcoming challenges, is becoming a more powerful state.
