A mining master was convicted for the death of a colleague during drilling and blasting operations in Buryatia

The Bauntovsky District Court of the Republic of Buryatia sentenced a 27-year-old mining foreman for the death of a machinist during drilling and blasting operations. This was reported by the court's press service.

The tragedy occurred in April 2025 at the ZakamenskLes LLC production site, where the Air Force LLC company was carrying out drilling and blasting operations. It was established that the security duties were assigned to a 27-year-old mining foreman, but he violated the requirements to reduce the work time.

So, he instructed to unload explosives and means of initiation, detonating cords close to each other, and after loading the explosives with the block and wells, he instructed to burn the empty cardboard container. Three bonfires were lit at 21, 36 and 38 m from the explosives with a minimum safety requirement of 100 m.

A spark detonated the stored explosives, followed by four explosions in the wells. As a result of the shock wave, a 35-year-old drilling rig operator who was working 50 m from the scene was killed.

The court found the mining foreman guilty under Part 2 of Article 217 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation "Violation of industrial safety requirements for hazardous production facilities, resulting in the death of a person by negligence" and sentenced him to one and a half years in prison, suspended with a three-year probation period.

According to UlanMedia, for two and a half years, the court also banned the man from working at hazardous production facilities. The verdict has not yet entered into legal force.
