Ski mountaineer Filippov became the winner of the European Sprint Championship

Russian athlete Nikita Filippov won the sprint race at the European Ski Mountaineering Championships on March 4. The tournament takes place on the slopes of the Azerbaijani resort of Shahdag.

In the final race, the 23-year-old Russian covered the distance in 2 minutes 58.6 seconds. The closest pursuer, Swiss athlete Thomas Boussard, was 1.2 seconds behind the leader, winning silver. The Spaniard Ferrer Martinez rounded out the top three winners, finishing 1.6 seconds behind the winner.

Nikita Filippov is the only representative of Russia at the current European championship. An athlete participates in competitions in a neutral status. The European Championship in Azerbaijan will last until March 8.

Filippov became the only Russian sprint medalist at the 2026 Olympics on February 22. The Russian athlete won the silver medal, losing to the Spaniard Oriol Cardona Kohl.
