Over the past day, on March 3, 178 road accidents occurred on Russian roads, in which 16 people were killed and 226 injured, 14 of the dead were drivers and passengers. This was reported to Izvestia on March 4 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

As a result of 45 accidents, 18 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 27 outside their area of operation, two pedestrians were killed, 43 more were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured were 4 underage pedestrians, 3 of whom were injured when crossing the roadway outside the designated areas.

There were 14 accidents involving buses, in which there were no fatalities, but 31 road users, including five children, required medical attention. Half of the bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by drivers of other vehicles.

So, in the Leningrad Region, in the morning, on 66 km of the A-180 Narva federal highway, a 35-year-old driver of a passenger taxi drove into the oncoming lane in a prohibited place, where he collided with an intercity bus traveling along the St. Petersburg — Izvara route with 23 passengers in the cabin.

As a result of the accident, the taxi driver and six bus passengers were hospitalized with injuries, and six more bus passengers were sent for outpatient treatment. The cause of the accident was a violation of overtaking rules on a section of road with difficult terrain — a combination of descent and turn, as well as loss of control on wet asphalt caused by the culprit of the collision.

In Barnaul (Altai Territory), also in the morning, a 33-year-old passenger car driver incorrectly chose the speed of movement in a snowfall and drove into the oncoming lane in a prohibited place, where he collided with a school bus carrying 22 young passengers and one accompanying adult. After that, the car bounced back into its lane and collided with a second passenger car. The perpetrator of the accident and four schoolchildren born in 2012 — 2016, passengers of the bus, suffered in the car accident. All of them received injuries and, after receiving medical treatment, were sent for outpatient treatment.

Over the past day, 15 accidents involving minors have been registered on Russian roads, in which 19 young road users, including 14 passengers, were injured. There are no dead children.

"The State Traffic Inspectorate recommends drivers not to overestimate their strength, abandon risky driving, exceed the established speed limit, refrain from sudden rash maneuvers and changes of lanes, overtaking and driving into oncoming traffic — even in the permitted places. Be especially careful and careful during the off-season with its capricious weather and mixed precipitation. Remember that your skills, driving experience, well—being, and law-abiding driving behavior depend not only on your life and health, but also on the lives and health of other road users, including young passengers," said the head of the Department for road Safety Promotion and prevention of child traffic injuries of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, Colonel police officer Sergey Hrantskevich.

Earlier, on February 21, it became known that Moscow has become a leader in road safety in 2025. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the death toll in road accidents on the capital's roads was 2.2 people per 100,000 population.
