The expert admitted the price increase in the nail service industry due to the new GOST

For small studios and private craftsmen, the transition to a new GOST in the nail service industry may provoke an additional price increase. Ilya Rusyaev, a business consultant and founder of the Rusyaev Club business community, told Izvestia on March 4.

According to Rusyaev, the new GOST, adopted by Rosstandart, applies to salons, individual entrepreneurs and the self-employed. According to him, the new standard is voluntary and will become mandatory only if the salon refers to GOST in the contract or public offer. However, according to the expert, large chains and premium salons will begin to use compliance with the standard as a marketing advantage.

"Large chains and premium salons will almost certainly start using GOST compliance as a marketing argument. "We have everything according to the standard, we don't skimp on your health." This will create an unspoken division between those who are "according to GOST" and those who work in the old way," Rusyaev said.

In addition, the expert stressed that for small studios and private craftsmen, the transition to GOST can mean either higher prices or maintaining the same pricing policy, but with an emphasis on speed and accessibility of services.

"GOST does not regulate prices. But if the salon decides to work strictly according to the technological map and spend more time on the procedure, the passability of the master per day will decrease. This can only be compensated by the price. Considering that the average bill is already growing by 10% per year, GOST can add a few more percent to this dynamic in those points that decide to comply with it," concluded Rusyaev.

On the same day, Rosstandart approved a new GOST for manicure and pedicure, which will become effective in Russia on April 30, 2026. It was clarified that it establishes general requirements for maps of technological processes in the nail service and describes the stages of performing various procedures. It has developed maps for a variety of services, including manicures, pedicures, hand and foot skin care, as well as strengthening and modeling artificial nails, decorative coating and removal of materials.
