On March 3, US President Donald Trump jokingly punched German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in the leg during a joint press conference at the White House after saying that Germany needed to be "hit".

"How are we going to treat Germany? I think we should hit them very, very hard," Trump said.

After that, the owner of the White House slapped the foot of the German Chancellor sitting next to him. Merz then smiled and shook his head.
