The son of Iran's supreme leader Ali Khamenei, Mojataba Khamenei, who was killed as a result of a military operation by the United States and Israel, has become the main candidate for his father's post. This was reported on March 4 by The New York Times (NYT), citing sources.

"The clergy considered the possibility of announcing that the son, Mojtaba Khamenei, would succeed his father as early as Wednesday morning, but some expressed concerns, fearing that this could make him a target for the United States and Israel," the publication says.
