Rosatom to Launch First Power Unit of Rooppur NPP in Bangladesh in First Half of 2026

The launch of the first power unit of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (NPP), which is currently under construction in Bangladesh, is scheduled for the first half of 2026, Rosatom told Izvestia.

In the summer of 2026, Moscow and Ouagadougou will launch an intergovernmental commission to strengthen ties.

"The physical startup of the first power unit of the Rooppur NPP is scheduled for the first half of 2026," the state corporation stated.

The state corporation is in the process of obtaining the necessary licenses.

"Everything indicates that the launch of the first power unit is not far off," said Russian Ambassador to the Republic Alexander Khozin.

The project is being implemented through an intergovernmental export loan from the Russian Federation.
